Open Question: What is the best health insurance and life insurance policies to go with?
What is the best health insurance and life insurance policies to go with?
I am recently out of the military and need to purchase an individual health ins policy. However, I am not sure which ones are the best. I am a student, do they offer any good student policies? Also, is the SGLI to VGLI conversion a good change to make? If not, which is better term or whole life insurance policies?
Open Question: Here are my beliefs, What is my religion?
Some background:
Raised Christian. Became a flaming follower of an evangelistic church when I was 10, such feelings have since faded with my search for knowledge in science, and quite possibly deep psychological reasons that i am yet to understand (because science shouldn’t have killed what I had). So i sit here, worrying about what comes after this life (I know its SOMETHING, so atheists please no depressing rants about how I will ultimately die and be used as fertilizer to become a tree). I’m looking to catch fire in god again, in whatever shape he takes this time around. I no longer believe I can rely on my accepting Jesus when I was 10 or 11 to prevent me from going to a very unfriendly place in the end. But I also don’t want to be sucking up to God if you will- I really want to be driven to follow and praise him. Or “It” if my beliefs don’t fall in with God being a “him”
What I believe:
The old testament is- well I have no idea, but it just seems like its filed with holes.
The new testament is accurate in 99.9999% of cases, excepting one thing- if you don’t go with Jesus I don’t think its a one way ticket to hell.
I think that all monotheistic religions are trying to please god and that God knows this- and which one you are really just depends on what one your parents or guardians had. When it comes to who gets into heaven- its not for me to say- but if you think about it- all those people that may have the ‘wrong’ religion (from a christian perspective- Judaism and Islam) are holing fast and praising god by NOT going to the religion that they have been told god says is wrong! Even if God woke them up in the middle of the night- the most fervent Islam extremist would PROBABLY view that as temptation from the devil, and desperately try to make God happy by accidentally rejecting him! How could God punish someone for that? And that is what I don’t believe in the new testament- that no matter how much you try to de good or please God you will wind up in hell without accepting Jesus as your savior. I doubt you would be let into heaven if you got it ‘wrong’ but i’m sure God has some manner of “soul insurance” policy for all of us.
Aside from those, Christianity is my friend, buuuuut those are pretty big aspects of Christianity… So I have a problem every Sunday when I go to church and can’t stand some fundamental aspects of them.
As for Jesus himself: his teachings are the moral absolute, and im pretty FREAKIN sure he’s the son of God, but that’s all i got.
In case your wondering what sent me here- Penn and Teller on Christianity on you tube has a very unpleasant video for Christians basing their beliefs off logic instead of faith alone.
Open Question: What do you think are the wrong reasons to be a mother?
1. To save marriage (”This will create a bond between me and my spouse!”)
2. For financial security (Child support, social welfare programs, etc)
3. To have an identity (”I’m Kaylee’s mom! I’m doing the most important job in the world!”)
4. To make up for lack of personal accomplishments (”My kid will cure cancer and that’ll make up for throwing my own life away!!”)
5. To vicariously relive childhood (”I’m going to give my child everything I never had!”)
6. To prove adulthood (”I am mature and responsible because I have a child!”)
7. As an insurance policy (”I’ll have someone to take care of me when I’m old!”)
8. To avoid getting a job (”I’m a full-time mom! I can’t work!”)
9. To avoid loneliness (”I’ll never be alone now that I have a baby. My baby will love me!”)
10. To feel needed (”I will have someone who needs me, and I can be in charge of someone!”)
11. Cult of Mommy (”Now I’ll fit in with all my peers!”)
12. To feel alive: (”Feeling a baby move inside of me will make me feel alive and creative!”)
13. Out of guilt (”My religion wants me to ‘atone” for the sin of enjoying sex, so I must have a child to make up for it.”)
14. To satisfy religious requirements (”My religion demands I don’t use birth control or that I give my husband a son!”)
15. Prove non-virgin status (”See, someone had sex with me!”)
16. As a science experiment (”A little bit of me plus a little bit of my man – let’s see what comes out! Hee hee hee!”
If that’s your reason to become a mother, think again.
Do we have any experts here on FF that can discuss rationally the pros and cons of socialized health care? I find myself to be a true capitalist and anarchist so the answer seems clear to me. Quit taking money out of my check to pay for the health care of myself and others and let me invest and manage my own health care which would include me….
