Resolved Question: How long to get settlement amount?
My husband was killed in a car accident (not his fault/police report bears this out). What is a reasonable time to expect the other parties insurance carrier to come up with a settlement offer? I am working through a lawyer. My husband made above average income and we have lots of outgo and income. The other policy is substantial and I can wait, but I feel like my life is on hold waiting to see if we need to invest the insurance policies with caution, or live life as were used to. There is no denial that the other driver was at fault, My husband was a very valuable member of our household, his childrens lives and society in general..
I have retained my own lawyer. He seems to think they will are leaning to settle this rather quickly (by end of summer),, I’m not so optimistic, however, as their the other driver’s policy was substantial and I’m not settling for a penny less then the full amount. My husband would have made 2X or 3X or whatever that amnt is in his lifetime.
Resolved Question: Am I really that bad of a person for being jealous?
Ok, let’s start with the facts about me. I am married to the love of my life and I consider myself extremely lucky and grateful for my husband. We both work very hard in life and yet still have difficulties, as excepted. I consider use very lucky just for the fact that my husband has a full time job in Houston, especially for the field of work that he is in (he is an auto-cad draftsman, and right now there aren’t any jobs) In order just to get the job he has right now, he had to start work under a temp. agency (his boss will only hire through temp. agencies so he can fire at will) the basic starting for no experience for his job is $28 an hour, but he had to start out at $16 an hour. After six months he was hired on full time (almost never heard of at his office unless you are a young unskilled, unless b*j*’s count, secretary) for $20 an hour, but frankly we are grateful just to have a paying job. His boss provides health care only to his employees and not their familys, unless you are a secretary, in that case you get extra health benefits and he covers all of their childrens and even one of theirs sisters!)
We are living in a pile of debt, two student loans (I know they are so worth it considering how little he gets paid
) car payment and outrageous vehicle insurance of $225 a month, it is so high because he has a medical condition that occasionally makes him just fall asleep at any moment, and it happened at the wheel. (it happened for the first time after seven years of absence, but came back due to stress)
Well, we barely get by and I am on a free birth control program. We would love more than anything to have children but we don’t because I don’t have health insurance and we can’t afford to pay $500 a month just to insure me. I was told today that I was a pathetic asshole that should go fuck myself because I get jealous (and I have never acted upon it, the person who said this said they saw it when I watched a family purchase a cart of food with wic and then use their real money to buy another cart of food and had a baby with nikies shoes on, and I have to carefully plan out $80 to last two weeks) of ass kissers who seem to have everything in life and I get a angry with people who life off of handouts living life without a care, teenage girls who have children. It is a bit painful every time I take a birth control pill, as it is a reminder of what we can’t have.
Am I really all that bad for being jealous and angry?
Resolved Question: Guardianship of minors estate?
My childrens father passed away in July and he left them life insurance money in just their name thinking I would have access to this since I would be their living guardian. Him and I were divorced at the time and he did not have a will when he passed away. I live in NJ with the kids and have been told I need to get a letter of guardiandhip of minors estate. Is this something easy? I’m a single mom with 2 kids and no means to hire a lawyer. I’d like to know that that money is there if my kids ever need braces, etc. It was the way their father and I discussed it to be – in emergency’s I could provide if I needed to. Our children are 7 and 4 so they have a way to go with just one parent. Any info on if this is something I can file myself would be appreciated.
I should also say that these kids have both got full paid college tuitions due to his death and that this life insurance would not benefit towards paying for college. I know that’s what is always asked first when I ask people “why not leave it for college”
