Voting Question: Is this normal at all?
I hate to use the word “normal” but it is the only word I can think of at this moment. I’m 18 about to be 19. Through out my life I have always had a very hard time with father figures in my life. Constantly there was always new guys up for the challenge in and out of my life. I have always been very out-going and have always just been able to shrug things off and hope for the best. Also I have always been the typical ” nice guy” and usually end up getting screwed over. Now at 18 there has been a father figure in my life for about 6-7 years, but it’s not working at all. Instead of having that son and father relationship it is a disaster. We never talk at all and if we do talk it seems that we argue instantly because of different points of view. I have changed a lot in the last years from either going through changes in my life or even because of my age. I’m becoming a very different person that I don’t like at all. I’m very short tempered now and it seems like i am becoming very depressed more and more. Everything I do seems to be not good enough for my parents and for the things that I enjoy doing i get harped on for doing them. I try to keep a normal state for my mom and for my little sister because I don’t want anything to change for them because it is OK for them. But for me, it’s a completely different story. I know every teenager says that they cannot stand there parents but lately it seems like everyone I know is enjoying there life and really love there parents a lot. I just can’t seem to get it. I don’t say anything about it because every time i say something anything revolving the way I feel I get classified into this genre of every teenager who hates his life. It just seems like its a lot harder for me than most of my friends. I mean when you have arguments with your parents you figure out a solution to change on both parts to be able to co-exist with each other. But it does not happen like that for me at all, it just gets worse and now I don’t even say more than about ten sentences a day to them, which is sad and i don’t like that. The depression seems like it has mentally numbed me, my dog recently just died that i have had for 14 years and i could care less. I tried to show that i cared but to be honest i didn’t care at all. I’m starting to blow my friends off because I just don’t feel like dealing with people. I don’t care about peoples feelings at all. I never use to be like this at all. I use to be the nicest kid to everyone but now it seems like i have a grudge or something. I have taken up different hobbies but nothing seems to help lately, it’s not like a suicidal thing that im feeling. In fact i have no feelings of that i just feel like i wish i could leave some were far away and live on my own. I don’t know whats going on but it seems like im always in fights with my so called “step-dad”. I know everyone has family problems and im nothing special but its an everyday thing. I feel im really smart and I don’t have a low self esteem but i just have so much sadness. It’s affecting my school and my personal life. I have no idea what to do. I don’t usually go an splurge my life on the internet but I just would like to hear what people think of my situation. Everything i have i have bought myself. People say it’s good to go and have to earn your own things and then your realize the true value of it. But I feel like im worn out at 18 and i have a job and stuff and go to school i just feel like im not living a normal life of an 18 year old. I can’t even get a car because i cant afford insurance on my own and a car payment. I pay for my own schooling and the reason why i can’t get on my parents insurance is because they don’t want to have to deal with the responsibility of me accidentally messing there insurance up. We are not poor, in fact we are very well off. You can say me saying all of this is another kid telling his life story about how bad he has it compared to everyone else. Which it may be. I just don’t know if i am going crazy or if it’s like this for everyone. Please tell me what you think.
