Open Question: How did we get so far in debt and what can we do now?
$11.9 Trillion and rising! $383 billion in interest alone per year of wasted tax payer money! How did it get that bad? What can we do to stop this? When is enough enough? Medical reform can go on the back burner; we have to eliminate this deficit before our beloved country goes belly up!

This a very brief overview of what I used to think before I found out that ‘We the People’ is meaningless and the Constitution isn’t worth the paper it is printed on:

*beginning* Many of us who lived through the cold war era were indoctrinated to equate socialism with communism. There are many aspects of a society that can be successfully federalized without it becoming ‘anti-American’. I believe that three major industries could be partially federalized to make life in America much better for all. Even the rich will benefit. Here is a very brief description:

1. Medical Insurance. Have the federal government buy into medical insurance industry. Use the profits to provide care to the poor, elderly, handicapped and the disabled. (no effect on the economy, satisfies the need without raising taxes)

2. Energy Infrastructure. ‘We the People’ could buy into this industry as well and use the profits to replace taxes. (economy boost)

3. Banking. If the government owned some financial institutions we could eliminate the budget deficit and use profits to further eliminate taxes. (economy boost)

It is not necessary for the private sector to control these industries to protect the concept of capitalism. There are plenty of other opportunities for even the smallest shoestring budgets to start a business and realize the American Dream. *end* (more advanced and detailed description in the blog at the bottom of the sources below)

That was before I found out the truth. Browse the following websites if you don’t believe me. We are all just sheep; slaves in a comfortable stable serving the machine (a gilded cage is still a cage). I am not unhappy with my life, just disheartened that I have no control over my destiny. As Dr. King might say, ‘slaves after all, slaves after all…’

If you have better or different ideas and explanations, write a blog and post the url so I can learn more from you too. Please list your sources.

Those who just want to waste your time labeling others please move on to the children’s section and leave these topics to the adults.

Resolved Question: Why doesn’t Medicare pay their part of costs for doctors that opt out of the program?
i used to think that doctors that opted out of medicare due to low fees could still be used and you just pay the difference, but no. if you have to go to one of these doctors you have to pay everything.

They may only charge 20% more, but medicare will not reimburse you for this which means the elderly have to pay the full price. i had thought you could submit the bill and have Medicare pay their part and you pay the difference.

I help elderly and one needed to see a GI doctor. Now the ones we were going to do not take Medicare . So he has to wait for TWO MONTHS for an appointment.

The only other option is to drive about 200 miles in either direction to find one that will take it and ge an early appointment.

The cost that would have to be paid would be about $800, but with the medicare you are talking about $450 would be paid. Also you can not use the supplemental insurance or the gap insurance.

There is one other medical eal inn a smaller town, but it has the nick name of “Killer (then hospital name)” as many go in and don’t come out and I mean young people.

So now you have to wait 2 months, but if the Medicare people would pay as they should then they could pay the difference and get the appointment in less than two weeks and have their gap insurance pick up another 20%

If they decide to save money by lowering what they pay the doctors in the Medicare program now (up to 31% first three years, 21% the first year), then many more will drop out. At this time about a third of all doctors in America have opted out of the program, which leads back to the problem of long lines and having to pay full bore for their expertise.

this doesn’t seem fair as the person has paid in all their life for Medicare and it should pay it’s part. The patient can pay and then be reimbursed by Medicare and the secondary insurance.
Your thoughts???
That’s a good point Steve and I don’t know the answer other than one might think $300 for doing an epidural for less than 15 minutes of work is worth it. I know that the GI group that does take it has a two month wait, vs the other with maybe two weeks.

I have noticed on the bill the Medicare doctors submit say $4,000 for the procedure, but medicare allows $900, This is broken down $200 for the anesthesiologist, then doctor and surgery center.

the one’s not in it then may charge an extra 33% , but what is going to be bad for the elderly that can not afford is that they cannot be reimbursed for the difference, i other words Medicare and the secondary insurance will not pay any of that cost and that means a ton of people waiting a long time.

Talked with a faimly from England adn Australia and both stated not that bad if lyou can afford the best insurance and you don’t have to wait, that the poor and other that are only on like our Medicare have to wait.
Hussein I am afraid that may happen unless they allow them to go to the other doctors and pay their part and the medicare pays what they would normally pay. One other thing that will help everyone is that our Reps and senators allow and tell the medical faicilites to charge the same that they pay Medicare and the HMOs, which is 80% less in most cases. they may charge a Joe off the street $250 off the streets, but Medicare will only approve $31.50.

Resolved Question: Reverse mortgage problems?
Mother got a reverse mortgage & passed 3 months later. My siblings & I are being sued for her debt?
The debt was secured upon her condo from what I understand (I could be mistaken) for a total of almost $30k.
My mother made her sister her beneficiary, life insurance & condo went to her.
She took the insurance money but did a power of attorney to my father to sell the property.
It never sold & was reclaimed by the condo association where it is located.
Only my elderly father & 1 sister live in the county the foreclosure was filed in.
I can not afford a real estate attorney for this matter.

How can we sort this out?
Anyone else have a similar experience?
