Health Insurance ==> ?!?!??!?!?
July 14, 2009 at 5:58 am. Roko – As others have stated, use a broker. To be more specific, though, find a broker in your area who specializes in health insurance plans for individuals. Go to NAHU.org (see below) to find one near you; NAHU is the professional association of brokers (like me) who specialize in health insurance. Leave a Reply. Click here to cancel reply. The Hunt For Affordable Health Insurance (NPR)
Last month, small business owner Larry Harbour of Broken Bow, Neb., told NPR that health insurance was unaffordable because of the $24,000- to $40,000-a-year premiums. That sounded way off-base to a Nebraska insurance broker. So, he called Harbour himself.  read more…

Open Question: Are there any whole life insurance / Roth IRA options similar to Colorado Banking?
I recently spoke to an investment broker about an option offered by Colorado Banking that offers an IRA with a guaranteed interest rate where the amount you put in ($150 per month) goes toward a 80,000 whole life insurance plan and also into an IRA that would return 319,000 at the end of 45 years. I’ve done the math and it does work itself out, but I’m curious if there are any companies that compete with the same type of plan.

Now last time I asked this question I was bombarded with people telling me that this investment is a ripoff and I shouldn’t do it, etc.

Also, the person who gave me all of this information gets nothing out of it, and I don’t pay her anything, so there is no actual ripoff when it comes to me being offered a bad deal.

The company sets up a minimum interest rate of 4%, but it’s been at 6% for a long time now. The whole life insurance is 86,000 until I reach 65, then it’s 48,000. After 10 years, none of the money I pay CB will go toward the life insurance, it will all go straight into the IRA and all of the money I had paid before (including the money that originally went into the life insurance) is available in my IRA.

What I’m trying to say is that the life insurance is basically an added bonus, except that it takes a bit out of your first 10 years of the IRA.

Now, excluding the money lost in those first ten years, 125 per month at 6% for 45 years (yes, I’m 20) would yield 338,000 (only 68,000 would be the principal), but since the life insurance (at the end of the 45 years it would be worth 48,000) takes out some of the first ten years the end yield would be 319,000 if interest rates stay at 6% (they are likely to increase once the market starts to rise). If they were to average 1 percent higher we’re taking about an end yield of 458,627.64.

What I’m trying to stress here is that the company isn’t some sort of scam, the guarantee (YES, GUARANTEE) a minimum of 4% annual interest, even though it’s usually a lot higher than that.

What I’m wondering is if any other companies offer the same / similar programs, and if they are as good / well known in the investment markets as CB.

Resolved Question: Whole/Universal Life Cash Values?
Since I’m getting a bunch of criticizm as to my estimations of cash value, I’d love to know, if I took out a policy five years ago, for $250 a month for $250,000 of life insurance, what would the cash value of that policy be now?

Or, agents/brokers, please give me some REAL examples, of how much cash value has built up, after 1, 3, 5, 10, 15 years of in force policies. NOT unguaranteed projections, please, but REAL examples, of total policy paid in, vs cash value accumulated, at about those intervals. Guaranteed projections ok. Thanks.
