Open Question: TRADUZUONE IN ITALIANO…E RIASSUNTO IN INGLESE….?
Are television viewing habits changing?
Once variety shows, films, the news, the weather and sports were what people watched most on television. If we look at the television listings today, we can see that there has been a major change in television viewing habits. The listings are now full of sit-coms, soap operas and reality shows. Sit-coms like “Dawson’s Creek” and “Popular” are being watched by an increasing number of people. The sit-com story lines are always the same. They’re ironic, funny stories about everyday life. Soap operas have become more numerous and more popular . Events in soap like “The Bold and the Beatiful”, “Coronation Street” and “EastEnders” seem to affect people’s lives. British doctors say that a lot of people come to see them with symptoms that are the same as those of the characters in their favourite soaps. In fact, when one of the characters in the BBC soap ” EastEnders” got a brain tumor, doctors had a great number of patients who thought that they had the same thing. An insurance company, in a survey of 200 family doctors, found that more than 90% of those doctors reported that illnesses on TV affected their patientd. However, some doctors think that this can make people more aware of health problems and can lead to erly diagnosis of diseases, therefore increasing the chance of recovery.
In early reality programmes viewers watched ordinary people doing ordinary things like trying to pass a driving test, going on a date with a stranger, doing their own job, falling in and out of love, and generally being themselves; these shows portrayed the reality of everyday life starring ordinary people, not Hollywood celebrities. More recently, programmes like “Survivor”, “Temptation Island” and “Big Brother” show a group of ordinary people in a competition situation being scrutinised by viewers.
Then either the group members themselves, or the millions of viewers, decide-over a period of time- which person is eliminated until there is one eventual winner. What is surprising, besides the fact that millions of people watch these shows, is that even the losers become celebrities . In any case, it seems that people today are more interesed in shows about people like themselves, doing ordinary everyday routines than in the more traditional news, weather, films and sport programmes. What about you? What kind TV programmes do you like best? Do you think that soaps, sit-coms and reality TV are more interesing to watch than variety shows, the news and films?

Open Question: Help with courts of law in the UK?
so this trial came to the jury and I don’t know what to do:

A very disturbed young man (We will call him Mr X) jumped off a building in order to commit suicide. As he was falling, a bullet came through a window which killed Mr X instead of the fall.

- the question which came forward is, is it murder, an accident or suicide?

Then we found out that there was in fact a net which had been put up which would have caught him and saved his life if he had not been shot. (the net was put up because rather a lot of people had jumped off this building) – is it suicide? – I thought yes because he had intended to die and had he not jumped, he would not have died.

Then we looked further into the shooter. It turns out that in fact the man who had shot the gun had been shooting at his wife and missed. – now in a court of law, if you try to kill someone and accidently kill someone else, its still murder.

HOWEVER, after a bit longer, it was discovered that the man often shot at his wife as a thing which they did a lot during arguments but the gun had never been loaded before and he had, had no idea that the gun would be loaded.

So we investigated who had loaded the gun. As it turns out, it was couples son who loaded it as he knew that his father would use it and shoot his mother which would mean that the son would inherit lots of money. So it would seem that the son is the murderer.

The twist is, is that the couples son is Mr X. His father hadn’t shot at his mother in a long time and so Mr X jumped off the top of the building, believing he had nothing to live for.

Is it Suicide? Insurance companies will not pay the family any life insurance if it is decided that Mr X committed suicide. And so I need to make a decision. HELP?
