Resolved Question: Same Question – different category: PROs and CONs of a REVERSE MORTGAGE for my elderly parents?
My folks paid of house many moons ago, and now, just depending on Social Security and Mom’s Medical Insurance, they are needing funds to live off of AND to assist in re-vamping the house.

They need to change the house somewhat physically because Dad will no longer be able to go upstairs (for showering) unless something is done SOON.

We are currently looking at options (such as a stair lift chair).

My siblings are very VERY wary of the Reverse Mortgage. They are afraid that someone will take the house from them when my folks pass away. I don’t care about that as much as Ma & Pa need the money to help them have some Quality In Life. The house is junk, and falling on it’s ear, anyway. I’m surprised it hasn’t been condemned by the city, like the house next door to them that is now a lovely open lot.

Please be prompt – I need to submit your advice to my siblings tomorrow in our meeting of how to help out Ma & Pa.

God Bless!

yawnwho – yeah, that is my point – hang the estate. Ma & Pa are #1 in my eyes right now. I think the major hangup is my sibling who is the Executor of their estate, he has never owned a home, and I’m thinking that he ‘hopes’ that the house will fall to him…but I doubt he’d use it – probably just sell it.
I think I’m just going to have to just leave this to God.

sassy2 – you put the definition very clearly. That is a great point you brought up…have us 4 kids “buy” the house for Ma & Pa, then give them the $. I wonder if we could swing that. Biggest obstacle is that 3/4 of us kids have been financially poor all of our adult lives. The well-to-do sibling is just coasting right now, and is not *by any means* wealthy. Just comfortable in very modest home.
Hmmm. more ideas folks??

Resolved Question: why you lost your doctor?
i am a terminal cancer patient who has been ‘suspended’ for treatments by my oncologist. i can’t blame him, he had been paying for my drugs up front and waiting on medicare to reimburse him. they have not been doing so. i am not the only one but now i must deal with a fast growing aggressive cancer and NO treatment.

i also just learned that my primary care doctor is moving her practice and will no longer accept medicare patients since costs have far exceeded what medicare will pay. doctors are doing this all over our country now, especially in rural areas.

this is dealing with life and death for many people and for the elderly who paid into it all their lives as insurance for such catastrophes but now we are told…sorry.

what is going to happen when millions more are added to the roles of medicare and health care. it will become as it is now in England and other countries who offer ‘free’ health care. determinations will have to be made if it is cost effective to treat you. it will not be for the majority of people in dire need so they will be SOL.

if you think that this doesn’t apply to you…wait..at some point in time, it will affect you and your family. then you will understand what has happened here.

many will not become doctors now and those who do will be overworked and underpaid. as in other countries who have ‘free’ health care.

ps. i also pay for private insurance too but they use medicare as a criteria.

be careful what you ask for, you may get it.

do you really trust the government to run our health care system?
thank you all for the kinds words. i think that the average citizen has no idea how devestating free health care will be to the millions who actually deserve it. to think that we will pay for people who are not even citizens breaks my heart. they do deserve treatment but from their own land, not taking from our citizens.

i wish there was some way to wake up people to what will happen to them and their loved ones if this occurs and it looks like it will.
oh yes, btw, this will not affect any government employee as with social security, they don’t pay to it nor do they live by it after they retire, they have their own retirment and will have their own health care i am sure. can you imagine teddy kennedy being under it…i can’t.
