Open Question: What’s the point of living anymore?
My wife and I moved our picture framing business from NH to western NY five years ago. We’ve had a negative cash flow since day one. Business has almost stopped dead with the economy. The bills keep coming in and going up. NY knows how to bleed you dry. Everyone here seems to be on relief somehow. We have our building up for sale but no one is even remotely interested. I have gone literally door to door looking for commercial business but there just isn’t any out there. I have tried many different things to drum up any kind of business without success. Without going into detail, I wrote a book in 1993 that applies to today’s world. It’s a good idea that could improve life in America without costing much. I sent it to President Obama but the White House has not responded. I have been sending my resume out but there aren’t jobs. Besides, I’m 61. Who wants to hire someone 61?! My wife says that we have to have hope but I just don’t see any. We don’t have a mortgage or any debt but between our taxes, health insurance and utilities we can’t afford to live anymore. The village where we live is telling us that we have to pay for the repair of the sidewalk in front of our store which has a vault under it from the days when they delivered coal. It is not on our deed. We don’t own it but that doesn’t matter to the village. They are estimating $40-60,000. for the repair! When there is no hope, what is the point of living anymore? If I could see a flicker of possibility anywhere I might feel some encouragement. I have a Masters Degree but to teach I would need additional college classes plus months of student teaching. There is no hope and I am just about ready to give up. With my life insurance my wife could get by for a couple of more years.
