Open Question: I was charged with retail theft after returning an AC to walmart for another one? I can’t find the receipt?
This is the honest truth. I bought an air conditioner at wal mart in Illinois when it got hot at the begnning of the summer. I had paid extra money for insurance on the purchase. My brother dinged up the grill while installing the AC. I was upset about the dinged up grill and thought I”d ask if the insurance I paid for would cover it. When I took it back to wal mart they let me exchange the AC for another one just like it. I paid for extra insurance on the second AC too. However I have since lost the receipts from this. I did fill out forms when I exchanged it. A month after this, I got a letter in the mail saying I have a court date in a month, and I’ve been charged with retail theft of the air conditioner. No police visited me, nobody booked me, nobody has fingerprinted me. I just have this court date, the judge is named, and it says I’m being charged with retail theft for knowingly defrauding wal mart out of merchandise or something to that effect.
I have looked EVERYWHERE for the records of this transaction, the receipts. I cannot find the receipt the warranty information and stuff was on. I threw out the box a week ago and I htink the receipt was in it.
My name is going to be published in the paper, I have a crimiinal charge.
I’ve never done anything wrong in my life, outside of a speeding ticket. I’ve never been charged with a crime and I didn’t purposefully do anythikng wrong. I thought they’d refuse to take it back if the insurance wasn’t going to cover the damage. I trusted the ladies at the customer service to tell me if it wasn’t covered. THey let me exchange it, even had a boy help me to my car.
Help! I’m afraid. I have a court date and I’m in trouble and I can’t find the receipt to prove I paid for the AC! Help! I keep crying. I don’t know what to do? Please give me legal advice.
I have no money for a lawyer right now!
These charges were filed a month after this exchange!

The weird thing is these charges were filed a month after the exchange and purchase! I wonder if the insurance just didn’t cover it. I’d pay for this airconditioner 8 times to avoid a criminal charge. I didn’t do this on purpose. I thought I made a legit exchange.

I am a 24 year old male with a “Driving While Impaired” on my record. Other than that one indiscretion, i have never had a speeding ticket or any other kind of moving violation in my life. I am thinking about purchasing a Grand Prix GXP which has a 8 cyclinder engine. I was curious as to what i can expect to be paying on the insurance aspect of it. Anythoughts let me know.

Not happy with Mozy right now. I had more than 250GB of stuff backed up that suddenly seems to have gone *poof*. It took months to get all that uploaded… Waiting to hear back from their CS people but if the answer is “sorry your data will have to be uploaded again” I’m finding another service that’s more reliable.
