Open Question: Do you have to include your spouse when applying for auto insurance?
My wife has only had one accident in her life, but it was last year so it is on her record. Now, when we shop for auto insurance and include both she and I on the application, the rates are outrageous. Can I just apply by myself since mine is the only name on the car? In the rare possibility that she get in another accident, it would still cover the car with full coverage, right?

Open Question: Hit and Run Car Accident -Police report filed, but received no insurance information?
Mine and another vehicle were involved in a DUI hit and run accident last night. They caught the perp who readily turned herself in. The police report was filed and all three parties involved gave the police our insurance information.

However, the police didn’t give us the perpetrator’s insurance info. They didn’t even give us her name or vehicle description. I guess we were too shaken at the time to notice that we needed these things in order to do anything.

We realized this pretty soon after the cops had left and called the dispatch to leave a message for the responding officer. We need to be able to file our claims ASAP, but the accident report won’t be available until later this week, so we have been calling the responding officer and leaving him messages all last night and today. He is on-duty but has not returned our calls. We do not live in that high a crime-rate area, but even if we did I KNOW that he could take five minutes out of his schedule to call and give us her insurance information so we can get on with our lives.

What I want to know is this: Is failing to give the victims the insurance information of the party at fault during a hit-and-run something that he could get in trouble for or something? Is there a reason he is avoiding us and ignoring our calls?

Thanks!
Sarah

Resolved Question: Would society benefit by encouraging suicide?
Most of the drug-related and violent crime is committed by the poor, and they do it for only a few reasons, such as for thrill/entertainment and for lifestyle achievement. If the government offered to relieve the burdens of life for those under an income threshold, wouldn’t such crime diminish and rapidly?

Since most poor people don’t pay taxes anyway and can’t afford to buy anything, what good are they to the economy other than to maintain a motivational factor for the middle class (i.e. a status other than prison that you want to avoid in life)?

Other benefits:
insurance rates decrease
taxes decrease (less spent on social programs and prisons)
people’s fears decrease and society becomes more content and secure (although a potential downside here is decreased governmental authority)
