Resolved Question: How much life insurance can a stay at home mom legally get?
I applied for $300,000 and was denied because I also have a $750,000 policy? The 750K policy is not for me, it is for charity. I have a rich cousin who purchased a paid up policy but because he is in his 60′s, he didn’t qualify. So he asked me. I took the physical and right now the policy is worth maybe $150,000 and it maxes out at $750K but that is if I live to be in my 90′s. When I die the money goes to charity. I don’t see what that policy has to do with me getting $300K to provide for my husband and children. I’m being told it is too much on my life as since I stay at home I’m not worth over a million in coverage. What I can’t find out is if that is a universal problem I will find anywhere or just this particular insurance company. I live in Massachusetts. Does anyone know?
I am not leaving it to charity, my cousin is. I’m just the one who did the physical because he was too old. So technically the policy is not for me, my cousin paid for it and he wants it to go to charity.

Resolved Question: Using universal life insurance to retire?
I read that you can put money into a universal life insurance which grows tax free. Then you can retire off of it by taking out loans which you don’t pay back. Sounds good. What are the loopholes that I should look out for? What specific questions should I ask about the policy? How could this come back and screw me over? Please be polite.
Our IRA contributions are at the maximum. After running the numbers the Roth IRA we have will not make a big impact on the nest egg required to maintain our income during retirement. I take advantage of all the free money available such as employer matched contributions. However, with taxes the way they are today (and I expect them to increase) I anticipate paying 40-50% to withdraw from a 401k. This doesn’t include the taxes associated with my death. Because the stock market is akin to gambling, I am simply looking for a better place to put my money than a bank or my mattress.
